Patrick did not begin roping until 1998. He rode horses for three-time world champion Allen Bach and was introduced to Tee Woolman. patrick Enjoys riding motorcycles and golf when he's not roping. His parents, Richard and Gloria, owned a heating and air conditioning company in Midland called "Smith Company."  he has an older brother and sister. Patrick is the first in his family to be involved in rodeo. his Favorite sports team is the Dallas Cowboys. he Appeared on ESPN’s Cold Pizza morning show in Las Vegas on Dec. 6, 2005
